Opennode windows performance vs vmware vs xen etc.

Hi!

I would like to get some info about opennode's performance running windows guests.
I would like to see a comparison with ESXi 5 (vSphere Hypervisor), XEN open source and perhaps any other virtualization techniques.

It seems to me that opennode (kvm) outperforms all other solutions when it comes to windows, is that right?
Same question would apply to linux too if possible.

What are the limitations of opennode, are there any?

Do you think that opennode might be a good choice for a mid-sized enterprise? Will it be present in the future, can I rely on future updates etc?

Please give me as much benchmarks and info you can, I think many searchers will find this post and if opennode is clearly the winner, they will choose it with the help of this post.

In order to get decent perfomance out of Windows KVM guests you have to use virtio windows drivers for sure (at least for storage). Signed drivers are available from Fedora project and can be used install time.

OpenNode is more optimized running linux in containers - which is much more efficient than using full virtualization like KVM. But for Windows and other OS-es - you still need KVM. So thats why we merged these two different approaches.

For KVM vs ESX vs XEN benchmarks - please google around a bit. But note that VMWare is trying to prohibit publishing all sorts of benchmarks covering its hypervisor - which are not approved officially. Still there are some indipendent comparisons available.

OpenNode can be a good choice for mid-sized enterprise - if looking for simple and inexpensive and open building block for close fitted solution. We usually work closely with customers during deployment phase - eg our team can be on premise building the site from scratch up if wanted - thats one way to have a deployment services we provide.

As for future updates - our customer base is constantly growing - so I think there is more to come
